Christy Helmke (intern)

Christy Helmke is a graduate of the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She is a obtaining her Masters of Social Work with a certification in Disaster Mental Health through the Tulane School of Social Work. With her Master's degree to be completed in a few short months she will be be interning with the Schema Therapy Center of New Orleans. Long before she had the opportunity to commit to graduate school, she became certified in areas that she believed would one day serve as a good background for her work as a therapist. She was trained and certified in domestic violence prevention via Duluth Intervention Program and has completed several research projects in disaster related areas. Her areas of interest include social anxiety, grief counseling, trauma recovery and disasters as they relate to mental heath. She has experience with crisis counseling and has previously worked at a crisis respite center. While at the crisis center she completed numerous treatment plans, evaluations and facilitated multiple therapeutic groups where she taught coping skills and deescalation techniques. Christy is currently taking new clients and because our intern rates are reduced her fees will be significantly less expensive than that of the certified Schema therapists. Each hour of treatment Christy provides is tied to an hour of supervision with a Schema therapist regarding the client she is working with; therefore clients will have the benefit of indirectly working with a master Schema Therapist.
